Thinking about booking a garage door service appointment but not quite sure what to expect? We hear a lot of the same questions from homeowners — things like: Do I need to be home? How long will it take? What exactly do you check?

So we put together this guide to walk you through everything. If you’re considering a tune-up or just want your garage door working its best, here are the most common questions we get about our garage door service appointments—and what you can expect when you schedule one with Central Oregon Garage Door.

Who Will Show Up for My Garage Door Service Appointment?

Every appointment is handled by one of our certified, experienced technicians—each with at least six years of hands-on experience. They’re trained to inspect, repair, and maintain all types of garage door systems, including the latest models from leading manufacturers.

We also prioritize clear communication. You’ll get a confirmation call the day before, and your technician will call again when they’re en route so you’re never left guessing. Once on-site, they’ll listen carefully to your concerns and explain their recommendations clearly and respectfully.

What Do You Check During the Service Appointment?

We perform a detailed 25-point inspection during every service appointment to make sure everything is working safely and efficiently. This includes both visual checks and hands-on testing of the following:

  • Springs & tension
  • Rollers, cables, drums & pulleys
  • Tracks, struts, jamb brackets & bearing plates
  • Bottom rubber seal, weatherstripping & climate seal
  • Sections & hinges
  • Remotes, keypads & safety eyes
  • Trolley rail, chain/belt systems
  • Operator motor, gear assembly, electrical wiring
  • Force & limit settings

We physically inspect and operate every moving part to ensure it’s functioning properly. If we spot anything worn, broken, or out of alignment, we’ll let you know right away.

Will You Lubricate the Door and Moving Parts?

Yes! Just like a car needs an oil change, your garage door needs regular lubrication to keep running smoothly. We oil and lube all moving parts during your service appointment to help reduce wear, minimize noise, and extend the lifespan of your system.

What Kinds of Issues Do You Usually Find?

The most common things we see during a service call include worn-out rollers, frayed or loose cables, and cracked or broken hinges. If we find something that needs replacing, we’ll explain why and only recommend what’s necessary. We don’t believe in pushy upsells or selling you parts you don’t need.

Do I Need to Be Home for the Appointment?

Not necessarily. If you can’t be home, we can still complete your service and provide a summary of what we found. That said, it’s helpful (but optional) to be there in person—especially if you’d like us to walk you through the inspection results and show you how to properly operate your system.

How Long Does a Garage Door Service Appointment Take?

Most appointments take about an hour, which is usually enough time for us to inspect and service one or two garage doors. We work efficiently, but we never rush—we want the job done right.

How Often Should I Schedule a Garage Door Service Appointment?

We recommend booking a service appointment once a year to keep your system running safely and smoothly. Your garage door is the biggest moving part in your home—and often your most-used entrance—so regular maintenance can help prevent expensive repairs down the road.
