A beautiful wood garage door can really take your breath away. No seriously! I know we’re a bit biased here at Central Oregon Garage Door, but there’s just something about thoughtfully designed custom wood garage doors that can take your home to the next level. Maybe it’s the way the natural cedar blends with the high desert landscape or how the sleek angles and vertical glass help accentuate your home’s modern style. When done right, a custom garage door can truly be something special.
Whether you’re a design aficionado seeking to elevate your property’s aesthetic or someone who values the warmth and authenticity that wood brings, you may have a few questions about wood garage doors and what it takes to get a custom project started. In this blog post, we’ll share a few unique benefits that wood garage doors offer, plus we’ll walk you through the process we use with every customer to help make their custom wood garage door dream a reality.
5 Benefits of Custom Wood Garage Doors
Wondering what kind of value a custom wood garage door could bring to your home? Let’s explore some of the benefits that set wood garage doors apart from other styles and materials.
1. Natural Curb Appeal
Aesthetics matter, and when it comes to enhancing the exterior of your home, few materials can match the natural curb appeal of wood. The rich, warm tones of custom wood garage doors effortlessly elevate the visual appeal of your property, creating a timeless and welcoming facade. Whether your home is nestled in the heart of the city or surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of Central Oregon, a custom wood garage door can be a statement piece that adds character and charm.
2. Customized Look and Fit
One size does not fit all, especially when it comes to garage doors. Wood offers a level of versatility that allows us to create a customized look and fit for each customer. Our team at Central Oregon Garage Door works closely with you to understand your vision and preferences. From the choice of wood species to the design details, every element is tailored to match the unique style of your home. This personalized approach ensures that your wood garage door not only enhances the overall look but also seamlessly integrates with the architectural character of your property.
3. Dent-Resistant
Wood garage doors are known for their durability and resistance to dents, providing a practical advantage in everyday use. Unlike metal doors, which can show signs of wear and tear over time, wood doors maintain their structural integrity and appearance, even in high-traffic areas. Our commitment to quality craftsmanship means that your custom wood garage door is not only a beautiful addition to your home but also a practical investment that stands up to the rigors of daily life.
4. Improved Insulation
Beyond their visual and structural benefits, wood garage doors also contribute to improved insulation. The natural properties of wood help regulate temperature, keeping your garage cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. This added insulation not only creates a more comfortable environment inside your garage but can also contribute to energy efficiency throughout your home. As a result, choosing a wood garage door becomes a practical and eco-friendly decision that goes beyond mere looks.
5. Environmentally Friendly
For those environmentally conscious homeowners, the choice of materials matters. Wood is a renewable resource with a lower environmental impact compared to some alternative garage door materials, especially when you use locally sourced materials. At Central Oregon Garage Door, we use all USA-made materials, and we build the entire garage door right here in our Redmond shop.
While wood garage doors offer many benefits, it’s important to acknowledge that wood may require more maintenance than some other materials, as it can be susceptible to weathering and pests. Regular sealing and occasional refinishing are recommended to preserve the door’s longevity and appearance. However, many homeowners find that the unique charm and character of wood doors outweigh the maintenance considerations.
Our Custom Wood Garage Door Process
Designing a custom wood garage door is a big investment, and every project and customer is unique. That’s why we follow a thorough process, taking the time to get to know you, understand your vision, and ensure that we’re meeting your expectations every step of the way.
Prep Work
We kick things off with a conversation. We want to know everything. What kind of project you have in mind, what styles, types of wood, and colors you’re interested in. As we hone in on your vision, our team will come to your location to measure and double-check all the necessary dimensions at your property.
Design
With a clear sense of where we’re headed, our in-house CAD engineer will create CAD drawings that we present to you for feedback. We’ll also choose a stain or paint color based on our previous conversations. We won’t move forward with anything until we have your approval on all the design details.
Construction
Now that we have the thumbs-up, it’s time to start building. After first ordering all USA-made materials, our craftsmen will build the frame of the door, insulate it, and then finish the hand-crafted overlay pieces. Next, we’ll stain or paint the door in-house to get a complete six-sided stain on each section to seal the door. Finally, we’ll install the glass and add finishing touches, then we’ll weigh each section of the door and put the whole thing through engineering tests to come up with a balance weight for the springs.
Installation
We’re almost there! Last but not least, we’ll schedule a time to come out and install your stunning new custom wood garage door. Our team installs the door with all heavy gauge hardware tracks and components.
At the end of the process, hopefully we have a very happy customer, and you have a beautiful, unique wood garage door that makes you smile every time you pull into the driveway coming home at the end of the day.
